Oh how we love, Miss Kasumi Contemporary Japanese
Miss Kasumi offers one of the most sensory dining experiences in Melbourne. Aesthetically pleasing, relaxed and lively, this sushi bar and restaurant is located in the heart of Kew along High Street – and it’s one of our favourite new Japanese restaurants.
Careful curation is the name of the game at Miss Kasumi. So you can expect a carefully designed menu and drinks list that ticks all the right boxes. In terms of the interior, you’ll find chic Japanese furniture amidst plants, a cherry blossom tree and an open sushi bar. With plenty of natural light during the day and muted light in the evening, the ambience is relaxing and delightful.
For lunch, Miss Kasumi Contemporary Japanese offers a set selection of miso soup, edamame, salad and don. We’re partial to the signature ramen made with full-bodied pork bone broth, thinly sliced pork, egg, bamboo shoots and fungus. However, the hotate don with scallops in a ponzu sauce; tofu kasumi curry and chicken katsu don with panko-crumbed chicken and a savory egg omelet are also delicious options. Paired alongside an ice-cold Asahi or Kirin and you’ve got yourself a delicious lunch, folks.
Delicious food, cocktails & more
For dinner, there is a choice of three different degustation options that can be altered according to dietary requirements. Starters include nori waffle of spicy yellowfin tuna, ikura, Parmesan cheese and nori; oysters with a yuzu dressing and salmon carpaccio with micro greens and a sweet-soy dressing. Then, expect mains like unagi kabayaki made with eel, edamame and red ginger; freshly caught market fish served with matcha salt and charcoal-grilled duck with yuzu gel and micro greens. You’ll also find a selection of noodles, soups and tempura, so everyone will be sorted when dining at Miss Kasumi.
Like any self-respecting Japanese restaurant, the sake, whiskey and beer choices are all superb, but the cocktails are where Miss Kasumi Contemporary Japanese really shines. The signature Eill & Sakura is an homage to love and is made with rose syrup, Bacardi, Blue Curacao and tonic. Their take on a margarita, the Hinagiku is mixed with chamomile liqueur and is truly inspired, as is the Okayu, a drink designed with Japanese comfort food in mind. This one is made with sake, Ketel One vodka, rice soup, almond syrup and pickled bean curd sauce. There’s plenty more to explore and sample here so we recommend you take a taxi to Miss Kasumi.
