New on Quandoo: Osteriya

Quisine’s New on Quandoo series means you’ll always be the first to know when exciting new restaurants join forces with Quandoo. We’ll help you keep your finger on the pulse of all the cool new eateries in your city – that way you can impress your friends with some insider info…

First up is Osteriya, a unique Melbourne Italian restaurant with a Japanese twist. Located on Hampton Street in Brighton, this is set to become your new favourite place for exceptional Italian food.

Osteriya: Italian by name, Japanese by birth

Inspired by the Italian osteria – a dining spot serving simple food and wine – dynamic restaurateur Leigh Fisher and head chef extraordinaire Shoichi Ueda have created one of the most exciting restaurants in Melbourne. Specialising in back-to-basics Italian cuisine with a Japanese influence, this chic space has got Melbourne foodies very interested indeed.

The restaurant itself is intimate and cosy, in true Italian osteria style. You’ll find exposed brick walls, bespoke furniture, a minimalist design and an open kitchen where you can watch Shoichi in action. The setting is ideal for having one of those evenings where the food and wine are flowing and by the end you’ve eaten your weight in some of the most delicious food in the city.

In terms of the Osteriya Melbourne menu you can expect a seasonal, ever-changing selection. The flavours are diverse, fresh and creative and showcase the seafood specialities of southern Italy as well as the hearty and rich tastes from the north.

Expect to find starters at Osteriya like arancini balls stuffed with mozzarella and peas, freshly shucked natural oysters and antipasti selections that go perfectly with an aperitif or two. Then, it’s all about freshly made pasta with options like smoked spaghettini served with clams and cherry tomatoes, tagliatelle with wagyu Bolognese and buckwheat short pasta with potato, cabbage and taleggio cheese. Mains consist of fresh market fish, slow-cooked pork belly and a particularly delicious braised ox cheek dish cooked in red wine with walnuts, radish, pear and a gorgonzola cheese salad. Certainly some dishes to get you in the mood, no?

Osteriya is breath of fresh air to the Melbourne dining scene and is one to check out, feast in and return to. Ticking all the right boxes, Osteriya is just delightful.
